• Token Passing contention management scheme

• The LAN type developed and pushed by IBM

• Much more complex and expensive than Ethernet

• The early version operated at 4 Mb/s

• Later a 16 Mb/s version

• Switched Ethernet beats Token Ring in:

  • Performance
  • Price
  • Ease of maintenance

• Token Ring still has a certain (fast diminishing) place in traditional IBM mainframe environments
