User-Network Signaling
User-Network Signaling is a mechanism between the user and the network through which they:
- exchange control of information
- request the use of network resources
- negotiate circuit parameters
The VPI/VCI pair as well as the requested bandwidth and quality of service are allocated to a virtual circuit as a result of a successful signaling exchange
User-network signaling protocols support the opening and closing of connections
These signaling protocols are run on the Signaling ATM Adaptation Layer (SAAL)
