Plagiarism and the Faculty: A case forevidence of scholarship.
Shirley Booth, University of Lund
In
January there was a short but energetic discussion in the ACM
SIGCSE mailing list on plagiarism by academics seeking a faculty
position. It had been seen that their "philosophy of education"
had been taken, in all probability, from the work of others. A
wide variety of aspects of plagiarism by both faculty and
students, and even the relation between them, ensued. Taking
this as a starting point, we can discuss plagiarism as it occurs in
the faculty and in the literature, and raise the issue of
avoiding similar plagiaristic attempts to fool appointment boards
with false personal philosophies. As with other fields of
scholarship, verifiable evidence must be offered for one's
claims.
